1 Dead in Riverside Motorcycle Accident on Interstate 215 near University Avenue

RIVERSIDE, CA (April 22, 2026) – Monday morning, 35-year-old Oscar Navarro died in a horrific motorcycle crash on Interstate 215 near University Avenue.

The incident happened at about 1:35 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 215 near University Avenue overpass.

Oscar Navarro was fatally injured at about 1:35 a.m. Monday on southbound I-215 near the University Avenue overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Javier Navarro, who is not related to the victim, said the incident stemmed from an earlier crash roughly 10 minutes before the fatal collision. A tractor-trailer and a Nissan Frontier pickup collided on the southbound freeway, scattering debris across multiple lanes. The semi-truck driver left the scene, authorities said.

Investigators said the debris made nearly all southbound lanes impassable except the HOV lane. A 2018 Mercedes-Benz SUV traveling in the fast lane approached the wreckage, while the motorcyclist, riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson, was in the adjacent HOV lane and coming up behind the SUV.

According to CHP, the Nissan was blocking the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes when the Mercedes driver swerved left to avoid it. The maneuver led to a collision with the motorcycle, sending it into the center median and ejecting the rider.

The Mercedes driver stopped immediately. Paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department arrived within minutes and transported Navarro to Riverside Community Hospital, where he died less than 30 minutes later.

The driver of the Nissan pickup suffered minor injuries, while the Mercedes driver was not hurt. Authorities have not released additional details about the truck driver or determined who may have been responsible for the initial crash.
