Off-Duty Detention Officer Killed in Houston Motorcycle Accident on Westheimer Road near Stoney Brook Drive

HOUSTON, TX (June 2, 2026) – Friday, Djamal Benamirouche was arrested after a horrific motorcycle crash on Westheimer Road.

The incident happened around midnight on Westheimer Road near Stoney Brook Drive.

Houston police said Djamal Benamirouche, 48, was driving a Lexus sedan eastbound when he made multiple lane changes to attempt a U-turn and struck a motorcycle.

Police said the motorcycle was being ridden by a 39-year-old off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office detention officer. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the motorcyclist was riding his personal bike, was not in uniform, and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Benamirouche was booked into the Harris County Jail and later released on a $75,000 bond. His trial is scheduled for early August.
