1 Dead in Sonoma Pedestrian Accident on 600 Broadway

SONOMA, CA (February 19, 2026) – Tuesday night, a 73-year-old woman died in a horrific pedestrian crash on 600 Broadway.

The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. in the 600 block of Broadway.

A 74-year-old Virginia woman remained hospitalized Wednesday in critical but stable condition at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, more than 12 hours after she and another woman were struck by an SUV while attempting to cross a street in Sonoma, officials said. The second woman, a 73-year-old Virginia resident, suffered life-threatening injuries and died Tuesday night at the scene.

Sonoma Police Chief Brandon Cutting said the women were hit by a northbound Toyota Highlander driven by a 52-year-old Sonoma woman. The driver stopped, remained at the scene, and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities have not released an official cause of the crash. Cutting said alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors. He added that the women were not in a crosswalk, intersection or marked crossing at the time.

Investigators believe the crash occurred shortly after rain began falling again as part of a storm system that had been soaking parts of the North Bay. They believe the women were trying to cross the street quickly to avoid the rain when they were struck.

The women were visiting Sonoma Valley and staying at a local hotel. Their spouses, who were walking some distance behind them, were not injured and were not in the roadway at the time of the crash.

“This is a tragic event for our community. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as the seriously injured female,” Cutting said.

Broadway between Napa and MacArthur streets was closed Tuesday night during the investigation and reopened early Wednesday.

Emergency crews from Sonoma police, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Sonoma Valley Fire District responded to the scene.

The name of the woman who died will be released after her family is notified. Additional details about the driver and the surviving victim were not immediately available.
