1 Dead in Hemet Pedestrian Accident on Garfield Avenue and Menlo Avenue

HEMET, CA (July 13, 2026) – Friday night, a person died in a horrific pedestrian crash on Garfield Avenue and Menlo Avenue.

The incident happened at around 8:56 p.m. on Garfield Avenue and Menlo Avenue.

A person riding a motorized wheelchair died after being struck by a vehicle on Menlo Avenue, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, crews from the Hemet Fire Department arrived to find the victim on the ground while officers with the Hemet Police Department were performing CPR. The involved vehicle came to rest a short distance from the collision scene.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital in critical condition but later died from their injuries.

Police closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of Menlo Avenue while investigators processed the scene.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and on additional charges. Authorities have not released the identities of the driver or the victim.
