1 Dead in Austin Pedestrian Accident on Montopolis Drive and Bastrop Highway

AUSTIN, TX (August 5, 2026) – Saturday morning, a person died in a horrific pedestrian crash on Montopolis Drive and Bastrop Highway.

The incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian happened at about 5:16 a.m. on Montopolis Drive and the northbound Bastrop Highway service road.

Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS crews provided lifesaving measures at the scene before transporting the pedestrian, an unidentified man, to a local hospital. The victim later died from his injuries, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police are investigating the incident as Austin’s 47th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 47 traffic deaths this year. By the same date in 2025, the city had recorded 57 fatal crashes that resulted in 61 deaths, according to police.

Authorities said the information released is based on the preliminary investigation and may change as the investigation continues.
