1 Dead in Santa Maria Pedestrian Accident on North Broadway and Fesler Street

SANTA MARIA, CA (March 16, 2026) – Friday afternoon, a 1-year-old child died in a horrific pedestrian crash on North Broadway and Fesler Street.

The incident happened just before 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of North Broadway and Fesler Street.

Police said a 30-year-old woman pushing a stroller attempted to cross Broadway on the west side of the intersection, according to Sgt. Shane Armstrong.

At the same time, an 18-year-old Santa Maria driver who had been stopped in an eastbound lane of Fesler Street began turning right onto Broadway and struck the woman and the child.

Both were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Officials later said the child died at the hospital, while the mother remained injured. The full extent of her injuries had not been released.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities added that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors.

The department’s Traffic Bureau continued to investigate. Names of those involved had not been released.
