KLEIN, TX (September 30, 2025) – Sunday, 2 people died in a horrific small plane crash on Spring Cypress Road at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport.

The incident happened around noon on Spring Cypress Road at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport.

Authorities say two people were killed when a small plane crashed and caught fire.

According to Sgt. Richard Standifer with the Department of Public Safety, the 1972 Cessna 340 was headed to Lubbock when the pilot reported a mechanical issue shortly after takeoff. The pilot attempted to turn back but landed well short of the runway.

Both the pilot and passenger, a man and a woman, were killed. Their identities have not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.
The crash sparked several small brushfires, which crews from the Klein and Spring fire departments contained within hours.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the fire was out by 2:30 p.m.
