Boy Killed in Horrific Solo-Vehicle Crash on Meridian Road

1 Dead in Monterey County Auto Accident on Meridian Road and Revilla Drive

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (April 5, 2026) – Friday night, a 16-year-old boy died in a horrific solo-vehicle crash on Meridian Road and Revilla Drive.

The incident involving only one vehicle happened at about 8:00 p.m. on Meridian Road, east of Revilla Drive.

CHP said a 37-year-old man from Castroville was driving a Volkswagen sedan westbound at a high rate of speed when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Three juvenile passengers were in the vehicle: a 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old boy, all from Castroville.

Authorities said the 16-year-old died from his injuries. The driver suffered suspected major injuries and was taken to a hospital. The 14-year-old and 7-year-old were transported to a San Jose hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, manslaughter, and child endangerment. Investigators believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

The teen’s identity will be released by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin are notified. Anyone with information is asked to contact CHP at 831-796-2160.
