DALLAS, TX (February 26, 2026) – Wednesday morning, a person died in a horrific vehicle crash on RL Thornton Freeway and W Illinois Avenue.

The incident happened at about 3:00 a.m. on the exit ramp from southbound South RL Thornton Freeway to West Illinois Avenue.

First responders determined the vehicle struck a crash attenuator, a safety device designed to absorb the energy of a fast-moving vehicle before it hits a concrete barrier. The impact caused the car to spin 180 degrees.

Two people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
