MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM (November 17, 2025) – Sunday, a horrific wrong-way crash on Interstate 40 at Mile Marker 38.5 led to fatality.

The incident involving a suspected drunk driver happened near Gallup on Interstate 40.

The McKinley County Sheriff’s Office reports a multi-vehicle crash on I-40 at mile marker 38.5 east of Gallup.

Authorities say a suspected drunk driver was traveling the wrong way and collided with a semi, which then struck another semi.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
