Police Investigate Crash on South River Road in Paso Robles

Paso Robles, CA (January 25, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash on South River Road occurred around 7:48 p.m., where a Kia SUV reportedly ran a red light and collided with a compact sedan making a left turn.

According to witness statements, the SUV appeared to be speeding through the intersection in an attempt to beat the light. 

The impact left the SUV’s driver with injuries that required transport to a nearby hospital. 

No physical injuries were reported among the five occupants of the sedan, which included two young children, though the children were visibly shaken by the event.

An off-duty sheriff’s deputy, who was driving behind the sedan after picking up his daughter from Paso Robles High School, witnessed the crash and quickly intervened. 

He helped escort the sedan’s occupants from their stalled vehicle and managed traffic at the scene until emergency responders arrived.

Paso Robles Police officers, along with fire and medical crews, responded within 10 minutes. 

Both vehicles were removed from the roadway by tow services, and the intersection was cleared within approximately 30 minutes. 

Authorities confirmed that the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
