Traffic Stalled after Kaufman County Auto Accident on Interstate 20 near Hiram Road

KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (August 17, 2025) – Friday night, a fiery vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near Hiram Road led to injuries.

The incident happened at around 5:53 p.m. on Interstate 20 near Hiram Road.

An 18-wheeler cab caught fire on I-20, with flames spreading into the trailer, according to reports. Fire crews requested mutual aid from the College Mound and Ables Springs Fire Departments as they worked to contain the truck fire and nearby grass that had ignited.

Around 6:06 p.m., while traffic was backed up from the closure, a secondary crash occurred. Authorities said a box truck pulling a trailer rear-ended another 18-wheeler that had slowed in traffic. Terrell VFD was called to assist with that collision.

One person from the box truck was taken to a Dallas-area hospital. Crews then focused on clearing the burned truck, a large diesel spill, and the secondary crash.

I-20’s left lane reopened around 7:40 p.m., but officials estimated it would take hours for traffic to clear. The cause of the original truck fire has not yet been determined.
