Sudan Boys Basketball Team Involved in Cochran County Auto Accident on TX 214 and FM 1585

COCHRAN COUNTY, TX (December 15, 2025) – Friday night, a startling bus crash on TX 214 and FM 1585 led to injuries.

The incident involving a bus carrying the Sudan Boys Basketball Team happened on TX 214 and FM 1585.

The Department of Public Safety said a passenger vehicle struck the bus in a T-bone collision.

According to posts circulating on social media, Coach Steven Gray was driving at the time and was able to keep the bus from rolling over or veering into a nearby field. Sudan Independent School District later confirmed that the coach and the students on board sustained only very minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to University Medical Center and, as of Saturday afternoon, had undergone surgery.

Sudan ISD released the following statement Saturday morning:

“The Sudan ISD Varsity Boys basketball team was involved in an accident while returning home from a game in Plains. By the grace of God, only very minor injuries were sustained by a couple of student athletes and one coach. We are incredibly grateful for Coach Gray, who did an outstanding job keeping the bus upright and ensuring the safety of everyone on board. Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver of the other vehicle.”
