Driver Cited After  2-Vehicle Crash on Camino del Rio in Durango

Durango, CO (June 29, 2025) – Durango police officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Camino del Rio and Eighth Street.

Authorities responded to the crash at 10:34 a.m., according to department spokeswoman McKenzie Perdue in an email to The Durango Herald.

The crash occurred when the driver of a 2010 red Lexus RX350 attempted to turn right from Eighth Street onto northbound Camino del Rio.

Instead of entering the nearest right lane, the Lexus driver veered into the far left lane and collided with a 2008 white Jeep Patriot, which was traveling north in that lane.

The impact forced the Jeep into the median, where it rolled over, Perdue said.

Both vehicles carried only their drivers, and no passengers were involved.

Remarkably, no one sustained serious injuries in the crash. Perdue noted that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have played a role in the incident.

Officers cited the Lexus driver for using an improper turning method that caused the accident. 

Perdue emphasized that Colorado law requires drivers to turn into the closest lane when turning at intersections.
