Injuries Reported in Hit-and-Run Crash on Esplanade Avenue [San Jacinto, CA]

San Jacinto, CA (February 9, 2026) — A driver was hurt after a hit-and-run crash on Esplanade Avenue on Friday afternoon that led to Riverside County sheriff’s deputies shooting and killing an allegedly armed hit-and-run suspect following a brief search and confrontation.

Reports say that deputies initially responded to a reported hit-and-run at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and San Jacinto Avenue. After arriving, they learned one of the drivers had fled the scene. Authorities later located the suspect in the 2000 block of San Jacinto Avenue and attempted to take the individual into custody.

According to investigators, the suspect did not comply with commands and produced a firearm, leading to a deputy-involved shooting. The suspect died at the scene.

The other driver involved in the hit-and-run suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. In line with department policy, the deputies involved were placed on paid administrative leave. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Force Investigation Detail is handling the investigation.
