Injuries Reported in Rollover Crash on Interstate 29 [Holt County, MO]

Holt County, MO (September 18, 2026) — On Thursday, a shocking crash on Interstate 29 caused an extended road closure and a secondary crash after a tractor-trailer carrying sulfuric acid and nitroglycerin overturned.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the southbound tractor-trailer veered off the roadway, jackknifed and overturned near mile marker 80. The tractor stopped upright in the median, while the trailer landed on its side across the southbound lanes. A passenger vehicle later struck the overturned trailer.

The tractor-trailer driver and passenger suffered minor injuries, while the passenger vehicle driver sustained moderate injuries and went to a local hospital. Authorities also evacuated about 30 nearby homes as a precaution because of the hazardous cargo. Residents later returned home after officials cleared the area.

Crews worked with hazardous-material specialists and environmental officials to manage the chemicals and clear the scene. Both directions of I-29 eventually reopened Thursday evening.
