Wheelchair User Killed in Santa Rosa Hit-and-Run Crash; Driver Arrested
Santa Rosa, CA (May 14, 2025) — A man using a wheelchair died Monday afternoon after a pickup truck, driven by Isreal Ramirez Sanchez, struck him in a Santa Rosa crosswalk, according to police.
The crash happened around 2:52 p.m. at West College Avenue and Clover Drive. Investigators said the pedestrian was crossing southbound in the crosswalk when a white lifted GMC pickup truck, traveling eastbound, moved forward after stopping at a red light.
Police said the driver struck the man while proceeding through the intersection at a slow speed. After the collision, the driver and a female passenger exited the truck and approached the victim before leaving the scene.
Authorities later identified the driver as 21-year-old Sanchez of Santa Rosa. Investigators used security camera footage and license plate reader technology to locate the suspect vehicle. Before officers arrived at the registered address, a family member contacted police and reported Sanchez was waiting there to surrender.
Officers arrested Sanchez on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death. The passenger was not arrested.
Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of family members. The investigation remains ongoing.
