Delano, CA (July 10, 2026) — Former Kennedy High School football standout Ivan Garza died after a vehicle struck him while he was crossing Glenwood Street in Delano early Wednesday morning.

According to the Delano Police Department, the crash happened around 4:10 a.m. in the 2100 block of Glenwood Street. Investigators said a northbound vehicle hit Garza as he crossed the roadway. Emergency responders transported the 25-year-old to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said the 32-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision and have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Kennedy High School football coach Mario Millan confirmed Garza’s identity. During his time with the Thunderbirds, Garza earned First Team All-State honors for small schools and All-South Sequoia League recognition as a senior. He also competed in basketball and track and field before continuing his football career at Sacramento State.

Garza played three seasons with the Hornets, appearing in every game during his college career. In 2022, he received Honorable Mention All-Big Sky recognition after starting multiple games on the offensive line.
