Harris County, TX (December 4, 2024) On Sunday morning, 7-year-old Ivory Smith was killed and her mother, Christina, was hurt after a horrific crash on the Sam Houston Parkway.

According to authorities, the fatal incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. at Bammel North Houston Road.

Reports say that a suspected drunk driver caused a tragic crash that killed Ivory Giselle Smith early Sunday morning.

Officials say that Ivory, a 2nd grader at Klenk Elementary in Klein ISD, was riding in the back seat of her mother Christina’s car when the collision occurred at Bammel North Houston Road and the Sam Houston Parkway around 2:45 a.m.

Authorities say 41-year-old Joel Gonzalez Chacin, was intoxicated when he crashed into their vehicle.

Authorities say that Ivory succumbed to her injuries, and her mother sustained severe injuries requiring surgery. Christina remains hospitalized and faces a challenging recovery, including physical therapy to regain her ability to walk.

Chacin, who has two children of his own, allegedly attempted to leave the scene after the crash instead of helping.
