Driver Arrested After Pickup Strikes Two Pedestrians in Santa Fe
Santa Fe, NM (June 19, 2025) — Two pedestrians suffered injuries Tuesday night after a pickup truck, driven by Jacob Arnal, left the roadway and struck them along Plaza Central in Santa Fe.
According to the Santa Fe Police Department, officers responded to the scene around 9:45 p.m. The victims were transported to a hospital, where doctors determined that one pedestrian sustained a broken arm while the other suffered a broken wrist.
Investigators identified the driver as 21-year-old Arnal. Police observed signs of impairment and took him into custody. Arnal agreed to testing, and because the crash resulted in injuries, authorities obtained a judicial warrant for a blood test as part of the investigation.
Police later booked Arnal into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center. He faces a charge of driving while intoxicated, causing great bodily harm.
Stop Pedestrian Accidents
To help avoid pedestrian accidents, drivers and pedestrians alike should be increasingly vigilant and watch out for each other. Drivers have to make sure to slow down in crowded areas, watch for people crossing and not get distracted, like by texting.
Pedestrians should cross only where they are supposed to, heed the traffic lights and attempt to establish eye contact with drivers before they step off the curb. If you’re walking at night, wear something bright or reflective so you’re easier to see. Do not walk and use a phone, or wear headphones, on the road.
Driving under the influence puts everyone on the road at risk, including pedestrians. If you or a loved one has been injured in a suspected impaired-driving crash, it is important to seek medical attention, document the incident, and understand your legal rights.
Life After a Traffic Collision
The effects of a traffic accident often go far beyond the moment it happens. Even after vehicles are removed from the road, the consequences can linger. Injuries may range from minor cuts and bruises to severe, life-altering trauma. In addition to physical pain, many victims face emotional stress, mental strain, and financial challenges that can make recovery even more difficult.
