64-Year-Old Oxnard Man Killed After Chain-Reaction Crash Involving Parked Vehicles in Oxnard

Oxnard, CA (June 20, 2025) — 64-year-old James Hays of Oxnard has died from injuries he suffered in a traffic collision earlier this month.

According to the Oxnard Police Department, the crash happened around 6:20 a.m. near Commercial Avenue and Warehouse Avenue. Responding officers found Hays seriously injured south of the intersection. Emergency crews transported him to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators determined that a Nissan Sentra driven by 34-year-old Israel Lopez was traveling northbound on Commercial Avenue when it crossed into the opposite lane and struck two parked vehicles along the west side of the roadway. The impact caused one of the parked vehicles to roll backward and hit Hays.

Lopez remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities during the investigation.

On June 18, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office notified police that Hays had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead that morning.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities have not determined whether speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the incident.
