Jason Chavez Dies in Frightening Collision on Fred Waring Drive [Indio, CA]

Indio, CA (July 14, 2026) — A single-vehicle rollover crash in Indio claimed the life of 22-year-old Jason Chavez of Indio and left another person injured Monday morning.

The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Fred Waring Drive, according to the Indio Police Department.

Investigators said a blue Toyota Tundra was traveling westbound when the driver apparently lost control, causing the truck to overturn. Both adult occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency responders pronounced Chavez dead at the scene. The other occupant suffered injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities also reported that a second vehicle struck debris scattered across the roadway, but it was not involved in the original rollover.

Officials temporarily closed the westbound lanes of Fred Waring Drive between Madison and Burr streets while crews cleared the scene. The roadway reopened several hours later.
