Jeffrey Jones Arrested in Hit-and-Run Collision on SR 89 [Prescott, AZ]

Prescott, AZ (June 1, 2025) — 63-year-old Jeffrey Jones of Prescott faces multiple felony charges after authorities say he struck a motorcyclist, dragged him for hundreds of feet, and fled the scene Thursday afternoon in Prescott.

The collision happened around 12:30 p.m. on State Route 89 near Peterson Lane. Investigators said Jones was driving a Ford F-150 southbound when he crashed into a Kawasaki motorcycle operated by a 25-year-old Prescott resident.

According to police, witnesses reported that Jones had been driving aggressively and entered oncoming traffic before attempting to return to the proper lane. During the maneuver, his truck reportedly struck the rear of the motorcycle. The impact caused the rider and motorcycle to become entangled with the pickup, dragging the motorcyclist approximately 220 feet before he separated from the vehicle.

Authorities said Jones continued driving after the crash and later stopped in a neighborhood near Cathedral Pines and Escalante Drive. Officers who responded to the area reported that Jones attempted to conceal alcohol containers before being taken into custody.

Police said breath tests indicated Jones’ blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit. He was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on felony charges that include aggravated assault, aggravated DUI, hit-and-run, and endangerment.

The motorcyclist’s condition has not been released as the investigation continues.
