Former U.S. Attorney Charged After Houston Hit-and-Run Crash
Houston, TX (May 21, 2025) — Former U.S. attorney Jennifer Bess Lowery now faces a felony charge in Harris County after investigators accused her of leaving the scene of a Houston crash that injured another driver.
Authorities said the collision happened around 8 p.m. on May 14 at the intersection of Asbury Street and Memorial Drive. Surveillance footage reportedly showed one vehicle striking another in a T-bone crash, scattering debris across the roadway.
The other driver, identified as Gabriel Fonseca, suffered injuries in the crash. He managed to move his damaged vehicle to a nearby parking area before calling 911. Investigators later determined the suspect vehicle left the scene shortly after the collision.
Police said witnesses saw a heavily damaged dark-colored sedan traveling south on Birdsall Street before it parked on Sandman Street. Officers later located a damaged blue Audi registered to Lowery with missing front-end parts matching the crash damage.
Investigators arrested Lowery on Monday and charged her with felony failure to stop and render aid. Court documents also stated that Lowery’s husband, attorney Matthew Willis, declined to allow her to provide a statement to police at the time officers contacted them.
Lowery’s attorney argued that she believed the other driver had already left the scene before she went home. The case will reportedly move forward to a grand jury review. Court records show Lowery posted bond and is scheduled to return to court in July.
Do The Right Thing. Stay. Help. Take Responsibility.
A hit-and-run is not just a crime, but a devastating act of cowardice leaving victims injured, scared, and sometimes fighting for their lives. If you’re involved in a traffic accident, stop immediately. Call 911. Help those who are hurt.
Remember that fleeing the scene only worsens the situation and carries serious legal consequences, including felony charges. Victims deserve accountability and justice.
Leaving the scene of a crash can delay emergency care for injured victims and create additional legal consequences. Drivers involved in collisions should remain at the scene, contact authorities, and make sure everyone involved receives assistance.
