Jason Arvin Velasquez Arrested After Fatal Houston Crash

Houston, TX — On December 5, Jessica Daughtery, 42, was killed in a crash on Gulf Freeway, and Jason Arvin Velasquez, 30, was charged.

A violent and chaotic crime spree on Houston highways Friday morning ended with one woman dead and a suspect in custody, according to the Houston Police Department.

The series of events began around 8:29 a.m. when police responded to a four-vehicle collision near the Gulf Freeway and Park Place Boulevard. 

Investigators say the suspect, driving a white SUV, initiated the crash before exiting the vehicle and firing multiple gunshots into the air.

Following the initial wreck, the suspect allegedly carjacked two separate black SUVs at gunpoint in areas north of the original scene, including along Woodridge Drive. 

Police believe these stolen vehicles were involved in additional crashes or broke down as the suspect continued traveling northbound on Interstate 45.

A citywide “be-on-the-lookout” alert was issued, and a Precinct 1 deputy located the suspect near U.S. 59, close to the George R. Brown Convention Center, as he attempted to carjack a white Dodge Ram. 

The suspect was arrested on the scene and later transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Multiple felony charges are pending.

Tragically, a woman inside one of the vehicles involved in the initial crash was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity was released as 42-year-old Jessica Daughtery.

Witnesses described the event as terrifying. One bystander recalled seeing vehicles spinning out before the suspect ran with a firearm, attempting to break into several cars. 

Another witness said she tried to aid the injured woman but fled in fear the armed suspect might return.

The crash site remains under investigation by HPD’s vehicular crimes unit, and several road closures are expected to continue as evidence is processed.
