Jesus Garcia Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on I-5 [Temple, TX]

Temple, TX (October 08, 2025) — A pedestrian died Sunday afternoon after being hit by an 18-wheeler, driven by Jesus Garcia, while trying to cross Interstate 35 near Exit 298 in Temple.

Police said the crash happened around 3:38 p.m. in the southbound lanes. The truck driver, identified as 32-year-old Garcia, reportedly left the scene but later stopped near Salado. Officers arrested Garcia for failure to stop and render aid involving personal injury or death.

Investigators from the Temple Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit closed a section of the highway for several hours as they examined the scene. Authorities advised drivers to exit before Exit 299 and take alternate routes while the closure was in effect.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Temple Police or Bell County Crime Stoppers.
