Santa Barbara, CA (January 23, 2026) — At least one person was injured hurt Wednesday evening after a frightening crash on West Cota Street and led to the arrest of 20-year-old Jhonathan Duran-Carrasco.

According to Santa Barbara police, officers first arrived at a two-vehicle crash near West Cota Street and Wentworth Avenue around 9:17 p.m. Emergency crews treated one injured individual and transported the victim to a nearby hospital.

While handling that scene, officers were alerted by a bystander to a second collision with injuries near San Pascual Street and Del Monte Avenue. Investigators determined the driver involved in that crash fled the area in a gray Hyundai Elantra.

Police later identified and arrested Duran-Carrasco on suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and committing a felony while out on bail. Authorities booked the man into jail with bail set at $100,000, where he remained in custody as of Thursday morning.
