Two Killed After Suspected DUI Pickup Crash Near Mather Golf Course
Sacramento County, CA (May 21, 2025) — Two 20-year-old e-motorcycle riders died Monday night after a speeding pickup truck, driven by Jihvon Thompson slammed into them near Eagles Nest Road and Woodring Drive in Sacramento County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victims had stopped at a stop sign around 9:15 p.m. when a Nissan Titan traveling at a high speed lost control and struck them. Both riders died at the scene. Authorities also noted neither rider was wearing a helmet.
CHP said the truck continued out of control after the collision and may have clipped another vehicle. Emergency crews transported two additional people to the hospital, including one person with major injuries and another with moderate injuries.
Officials reported that two men fled from the crash site into nearby fields. Deputies detained one individual shortly afterward, while officers later arrested 24-year-old Thompson at his home.
Authorities booked Thompson on multiple charges, including two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI causing injury or death, and felony hit-and-run. He remains in the Sacramento County Main Jail with bail set at $550,000.
Investigators believe alcohol played a role in the crash. CHP also said witnesses reported the people involved knew each other and had reportedly been gathering together before the collision.
The roadway remained closed for several hours overnight while crews investigated the deadly crash.
Sweet Lawyers extends heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims affected by this tragic crash. Losing lives in a preventable impaired-driving collision is devastating, and we hope those impacted find strength and support during this difficult time.
Finding Support and Accountability After a Sudden Loss
Losing someone you love in an unexpected accident can turn your world upside down. Along with the deep emotional pain, families are often faced with practical and financial concerns—medical bills, funeral arrangements, and the sudden loss of emotional and financial support. These challenges can feel overwhelming when you’re already grieving.
During times like these, it’s important to know that help is available. A wrongful death claim may provide a path toward accountability and financial stability, helping families protect their future while honoring their loved one’s memory.
Through a wrongful death claim, families may be able to seek compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical care related to the final injuries
- Lost income and future financial support
- Emotional pain and loss of companionship
This process isn’t just about financial recovery—it’s about accountability. When negligence, reckless behavior, or impaired driving contributes to a fatal accident, holding the responsible party accountable can help bring justice and reduce the risk of similar tragedies happening to others.
While nothing can ever replace the life that was lost, pursuing justice can offer families a sense of closure and peace. It’s one meaningful way to honor a loved one’s life and legacy.
