22-Year-Old Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash in Lake Forest
Orange County, CA (August 8, 2026) — 22-year-old Joel MendezCamargo faces a vehicular manslaughter charge after a suspected DUI crash killed another driver Thursday night in Lake Forest, California.
Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded around 9:40 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision near El Toro Road and Via Ridgeline Road. Paramedics found a man in his 70s dead at the scene. Authorities withheld his identity pending notification of his family.
Deputies arrested the other driver, identified as Joel Obed MendezCamargo, on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Authorities booked him into the Orange County Jail for suspected gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the ongoing investigation.
