Speed-Related Fiery Crash on Ladd Road Kills One, Injures Multiple in Modesto
Modesto, CA (June 29, 2025) — 38-year-old Jon Burgess and three others suffered injuries following a suspected DUI-related three-vehicle crash on Ladd Road on Saturday night.
The collision happened around 9:35 p.m. just east of Tully Road, south of Del Rio. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2026 Porsche coupe was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle rear-ended a 2016 Ram pickup. The impact caused the pickup to leave the roadway and overturn.
The Porsche then crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2023 Mercedes SUV before catching fire. Emergency responders found the Porsche engulfed in flames. The 57-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Porsche passenger, Burgess of Manteca, sustained major injuries and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center.
The Ram’s driver, 27-year-old Ismael Gonzalez of Manteca, suffered minor injuries. His five passengers—including two children—were properly restrained and escaped with either minor injuries or no injuries.
The Mercedes driver, Diana Ybarra, 52, and her passenger, Manuel Ybarra, 53, both of Oakdale, sustained major injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
Investigators believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Authorities closed Ladd Road for about two and a half hours while crews investigated the collision.
