44-Year-Old Man Dead in Oakland Hit-and-Run Accident on 69th Avenue and San Leandro Boulevard

OAKLAND, CA (October 18, 2022) – Monday morning, authorities arrested Jonathan Hernandez after a deadly crash on 69th Avenue.

The incident happened on 69th Avenue and San Leandro Boulevard.

According to reports, officers pursued 23-year-old Jonathan Hernandez suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run crash on Friday. During the pursuit, Hernandez struck a 44-year-old man driving a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

As a result, the pickup truck driver succumbed to injuries at the scene. His identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Armstrong said the driver of the pickup truck died at the scene. His name is not yet being released.

Then, authorities arrested Hernandez at the scene and police recovered a gun. They booked him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, evading police, and gun violations. He’s also being held for allegedly brandishing a gun and threatening another driver in a crash from three days ago.

The case is pending review by the Alameda County prosecutor.
