Teen Driver Killed in Rear-End Crash on MoPac Expressway

Austin, TX (December 18, 2025) — 19-year-old Jonhatan Rodriguez died Tuesday morning following a rear-end collision on the southbound lanes of MoPac Expressway in Austin.

Investigators said two vehicles traveling southbound near U.S. Highway 183 and the Anderson Lane exit collided just after 9 a.m. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:27 a.m.

The other driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police determined the fatal injuries resulted from trauma sustained during the crash. Officials do not suspect additional contributing factors at this time.

The crash forced the closure of southbound MoPac for several hours while detectives investigated. All lanes reopened around 12:30 p.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
