Jose Bonilla Dies in Horrific Accident on Monmouth Street [Harris County, TX]

Harris County, TX (October 04, 2025) — 50-year-old Jose Bonilla died and Israel Medellin was hurt after a road construction project in Harris County turned deadly Thursday morning when a tire from an 18-wheeler flew into a work zone.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 9:50 a.m. in the 100 block of Monmouth Street, just north of the East Freeway. Investigators reported that the big rig lost a wheel while traveling westbound, sending it airborne into the repaving site.

The tire struck crew member William Burns, hit a paving machine, and then fatally injured Bonilla. It also hit Medellin, who suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A nearby parked Chevrolet Tahoe was also damaged.

Bonilla died at the scene. The sheriff’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate.
