Dump Truck Driver Injured After Hit-and-Run Crash Near Chelan

Chelan, WA (October 15, 2025) — 58-year-old Jose Cuevas of East Wenatchee sustained injuries after his dump truck overturned during a hit-and-run crash on U.S. 97, just south of Chelan, Monday morning.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Cuevas was traveling north around 8 a.m. when two unidentified vehicles suddenly entered the highway from a dirt road ahead of him. To avoid a collision, Cuevas braked hard and swerved right, causing his dump truck to veer off the road and tip onto its passenger side.

Emergency responders transported Cuevas to Chelan Hospital for treatment. The crash shut down the highway for about four hours while authorities investigated.

Troopers are still working to identify and locate the drivers involved in the hit-and-run.
