Jose Maranon Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on Van Nuys Boulevard [Van Nuys, CA]

Van Nuys, CA (May 6, 2026) – Jose Maranon, 40, of North California, was arrested following a deadly hit-and-run crash on Van Nuys Boulevard Monday night.

It was around 10:25 p.m. when the fatal crash happened on the southbound freeway.

Police said a white Mercedes-Benz driven by Jose Maranon was traveling at an unsafe speed toward Sherman Way when it struck a pedestrian crossing the street in a marked crosswalk.

The impact threw the victim in a southwest direction before hitting the roadway, while the Mercedes-Benz fled north on Van Nuys Boulevard.

Moreover, the accident report stated that the driver was under the influence of an unspecified intoxicant.

Responding rescuers declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene and withheld the victim’s identity pending notification of family.

Police later found Jose Maranon after further investigation and took him into custody. They booked him at the Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of murder, with a bail set at $2 million.
