PHOENIX, AZ (April 7, 2026) — Phoenix police identified the man who died after a hit-and-run crash on Thomas Road late Monday night as 41-year-old Joseph Mike Virgil.

Officers responded to the area of 16th Street and Thomas Road shortly after 10 p.m. and found Virgil lying in the roadway with serious injuries. 

Paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he later died.

According to Phoenix police, investigators believe Virgil lay down in a traffic lane shortly before a vehicle traveling eastbound on Thomas Road struck him.

The driver left the scene before first responders arrived. Police said investigators did not have a suspect description available.

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash.
