Juan Diaz Arrested in Chico Hit-and-Run Collisions [Chico, CA]

Chico Man Arrested After Alleged DUI Crashes Leave One Person Injured

Chico, CA (June 13, 2025) — Chico police arrested 37-year-old Juan Diaz Wednesday morning in connection with two suspected DUI hit-and-run crashes that left one person with minor injuries.

Officers responded around 8:45 a.m. after receiving reports of two separate collisions—one near East 1st Avenue and Sherman Avenue and another at a Starbucks on East Avenue. Witnesses reported that the same vehicle and driver were involved in both incidents and appeared to be impaired.

Investigators later located the suspected vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Impala, traveling on Cohasset Road. The driver, identified as Juan Martin Diaz of Chico, pulled into a business parking lot near Cohasset Road and the Esplanade.

Police said Diaz initially refused to leave the vehicle and remained uncooperative. After about 15 minutes, he complied with the officers and was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities booked Diaz into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and resisting arrest. One of the drivers involved in the crashes reported suffering minor injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Hit-and-Run is a Crime

A hit-and-run is a deadly offense that endangers lives and robs victims of their right to assistance. If you’re in an accident, do not leave the scene and check for injuries, 911 should be called immediately. Leaving can lead to criminal charges, even if the crash appears to be minor. As a driver, own it — someone’s life could hang in the balance.

If you observe a hit-and-run, report it and give any information you can. Assistance to law enforcement can really make a difference. Each of us can do our part to drive responsibly and with integrity, and to get everyone the help they need after a crash.

Driving under the influence can endanger lives and lead to serious legal consequences. If you suspect an impaired driver on the road, maintain a safe distance and contact local authorities as soon as it is safe to do so.
