Rio Rancho, NM (March 9, 2026) — On Thursday morning, police arrested 21-year-old Julian Weeks of Albuquerque after a crash on Southern Boulevard that led to possible injuries.

Police said the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Reports say that a motorist narrowly avoided a dangerous head-on collision after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole early at Southern Boulevard and Nicklaus Drive in Rio Rancho.

Officials say that when a Kia struck and completely snapped a wooden power pole at the intersection, causing a power outage in the surrounding area. The crash forced traffic to be controlled with four-way stops while utility crews worked to restore electricity.

According to investigators, an eastbound driver on Southern Boulevard saw a vehicle traveling directly toward him in the wrong lanes. The approaching driver later swerved away, avoiding a direct collision, before crashing into the pole.
