Manson Man Hurt in Frightening Collision on State Route 970 Near Cle Elum
Cle Elum, WA (June 14, 2025) — 27-year-old Justus Torres of Manson sustained injuries following a two-vehicle crash Friday morning on State Route 970 near Cle Elum.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened around 7:10 a.m. on June 12 at the intersection of Teanaway Road and SR 970, about seven miles east of Cle Elum.
Investigators said a 67-year-old Lake Stevens woman driving a 2014 Nissan NV was traveling south on Teanaway Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. A westbound 2005 BMW then struck the Nissan.
The BMW driver, Justus J. Torres, suffered injuries and was taken to a Wenatchee hospital for treatment. The Nissan driver, Susan D. Daniels, was not injured.
Authorities said both drivers were wearing seat belts. The crash totaled both vehicles, which were later removed from the scene by towing companies.
Troopers continue to investigate the collision. Charges against Daniels are pending, and officials have not yet determined whether impairment was a factor.
Traffic accidents can happen in the blink of an eye — but their effects can last a lifetime. Every time you get behind the wheel, remember: staying alert and making safe choices can save lives. Avoid distractions, never drive under the influence, and always wear your seatbelt. Follow speed limits, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and watch out for pedestrians and cyclists who share the road with you.
Take that extra moment to look both ways and yield cautiously at intersections — sometimes, that one second of attention can prevent a serious or even life-threatening crash.
Intersections can become dangerous when traffic signals or stop signs are ignored. Drivers should always come to a complete stop, check for oncoming traffic, and proceed only when it is safe to help prevent serious crashes and injuries.
