Karol Sanchez Injured in Head-On Collision on SR-17 [Warden, WA]

Warden, WA (August 26, 2026) — Jessica Detwiler died, and Karol Sanchez and a 21-year-old Othello man suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash Monday evening on State Route 17.

The Washington State Patrol said the collision happened around 6:40 p.m. near milepost 38, about two miles southwest of Warden.

Reports say that 26-year-old Detwiler of Moses Lake was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound when she crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2018 Kia Sorento.

Detwiler died at the scene. Troopers reported that she was not wearing a seat belt.

The Kia driver, Karol A. Sanchez, was wearing a seat belt and sustained serious injuries. Medics transported Sanchez by Life Flight to Kadlec for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained total damage and were removed from the roadway. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
