4 Dead in Springtown Auto Accident on Farm Road 51 and Friendship Road

SPRINGTOWN, TX (May 30, 2024) – Sunday afternoon, Kathryn Elizabeth Lain died in a horrific head-on crash on Farm Road 51.

The incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. on Farm Road 51, just south of Friendship Road, between Springtown and Weatherford.

A tragic collision happened when a 43-year-old woman and her three passengers were traveling north. Then, a southbound vehicle veered into their lane and struck them head-on. The woman survived the crash, but sadly, her passengers—a 66-year-old man named Gregory Daniel Schilb from Springtown and two nine-year-old girls—did not survive. The driver of the vehicle that crossed into their lane, 29-year-old Lain from Boyd, also died in the crash.

Officials have yet to determine why Lain veered into the northbound lane, and the investigation is ongoing. The Springtown Independent School District acknowledged the incident on Monday morning, noting that two of the deceased were fourth-grade students within the district, and a teacher from Goshen Creek Elementary School was severely injured.

The district expressed profound sorrow in their statement: “Our hearts ache for the families of those we lost, for our entire district, and for our community as a whole. We are heartbroken to hear about any life that was lost during this tragedy. Life is so precious and way too short. During this difficult time, we ask that you hold them in your thoughts and prayers.”

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
