Kathryn Hong of Minnesota Killed in Del Monte Avenue Accident [Monterey, CA]

Monterey, CA (September 24, 2024) – Kathryn Hong, 65, of Bloomington, Minnesota, was killed in a Del Monte Avenue accident Friday night.

It was about 8 p.m. when the collision happened at the intersection with Calle Principal.

Troopers said Kathryn Hong was struck by a pickup truck driven by Jairo Cardenes Perez, 23, of Salinas.

Immediately, an AMR ambulance arrived and transported the woman to the Natividad Medical Center, where she later died.

Jairo Cardenes Pere was not hurt in the accident. 

Moreover, investigators said Cardenes Perez immediately stopped after the accident and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.

Monterey Police do not believe Cardenes Perez was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office will review the case for potential criminal filing of charges.
