Kayla Renae Sawtell Arrested in Disastrous Motorcycle Crash on I-35 [McLennan County, TX]

McLennan County, TX (June 14, 2025) — On Thursday, a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries following a collision with an SUV on Interstate 35 that led to the arrest of Kayla Renae Sawtell.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-35 near mile marker 355 near the McLennan and Hill County line. When a state trooper arrived at the scene, the injured motorcyclist had already been airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators identified the SUV involved as a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 34-year-old Sawtell. Authorities reported signs of impairment while speaking with Sawtell and conducted a field sobriety test during the investigation.

Following the assessment, troopers arrested Sawtell and booked her into the McLennan County Jail. She now faces a charge of intoxication assault with a motor vehicle, causing serious bodily injury.

The crash remains under investigation.
