Motorcyclist Dies After Alleged DUI Crash on I-25; Driver Faces Homicide Charge

Albuquerque, NM (June 10, 2025) — 24-year-old Keegan Thomas was killed after a motorcycle crash on Interstate 25, which led to New Mexico State Police arresting 58-year-old Danny Sanchez.

Authorities responded around 11:54 p.m. to the northbound I-25 near Comanche after receiving reports of a motorcycle collision. When officers arrived, bystanders were attempting to help Thomas, who had suffered severe injuries.

Investigators determined that both vehicles were traveling northbound when a 2013 BMW driven by Sanchez struck Thomas’ motorcycle from behind. Emergency crews transported Thomas to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police located Sanchez’s damaged BMW at the scene and reported that the vehicle’s front-end damage was consistent with a rear-end collision involving the motorcycle. During the investigation, officers observed signs of impairment and arrested Sanchez on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Sanchez now faces charges including homicide by vehicle, aggravated DWI, and careless driving. The New Mexico State Police Vehicular Crimes Unit continues to investigate the crash.
