75-Year-Old Kenneth Lauer Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash Near State Street [Hemet, CA]

Hemet, CA (June 30, 2025) On Saturday evening, 75-year-old Kenneth Lauer of Hemet lost his life after a hit-and-run crash near State Street.

According to Hemet police, the fatal collision happened around 5:35 p.m. near Domenigoni Parkway and State Street.

Reports say that the 75-year-old bicyclist died after a vehicle struck him, and the driver fled the scene before being arrested following a short police pursuit.

Authorities responded to a report of a crash, and officers arrived and found the cyclist, later identified as Lauer, deceased in the roadway.

Witnesses at the scene informed officers that the driver had fled and provided a description of the vehicle and its direction. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over, leading to a three-minute pursuit. Authorities eventually apprehended the driver and booked them into the Riverside County Jail. Officials have not yet released the driver’s identity.

Preliminary findings indicate the eastbound vehicle struck Lauer as he rode along Domenigoni Parkway. Investigators believe alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash.

Authorities closed Domenigoni Parkway between State Street and Searl Parkway from approximately 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. to conduct the investigation.
