Spokane County Sheriff’s Sergeant Killed While Assisting on I-90
Spokane County, WA (August 10, 2025) – Sergeant Kenneth Salas of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office died after a horrific traffic crash on I-90.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the frightening crash happened Saturday morning around 7:40 a.m. eastbound I-90 near the Four Lakes exit.
Reports say that the 59-year-old sergeant was removing a bale of hay that had fallen from a vehicle and was posing a danger to motorists when the crash occurred.
Authorities say that a driver ignored flashing patrol lights and a directional bar while attempting to pass another vehicle on the left, striking Salas.
Sergeant Salas dedicated 34 years to law enforcement, earning his promotion to sergeant in 2009. He also served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force and the Washington State Air National Guard, retiring as a Technical Sergeant.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.
