Kevin Wooten Dies in Tragic Collision on High Street [Turlock, CA]

Turlock, CA (September 27, 2026) — A Turlock Transit bus driver suffered serious injuries, while Kevin Wooten died after a crash sent a bus into a home near High Street.

Authorities say that the fatal incident happened on West Avenue South in Turlock, California, at about 8:10 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said 53-year-old Kevin Wooten of Turlock had earlier been involved in a hit-and-run crash on Lander Avenue near Highway 99.

Investigators later determined that the same white Kia sedan traveled west on High Street and collided with the transit bus after failing to stop at the intersection.

The impact pushed the bus off the roadway and into an unoccupied residence. Wooten was found unresponsive inside the Kia and died despite lifesaving efforts.

The bus driver was the only person aboard the transit vehicle and sustained serious injuries. The driver was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

The crash also damaged a fire hydrant and natural gas line. Police continue to investigate, and toxicology results are pending.
