Police Search Driver After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash at Sheep Creek Road in Phelan

PHELAN, CA (May 20, 2026)— A woman died, and a man was hospitalized on Wednesday night after a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash at Sheep Creek Road and Dos Palmas Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 10:05 p.m. on May 20, 2026, at Sheep Creek Road and Dos Palmas Road in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County.

CHP officers from the Victorville Area office and San Bernardino County Fire Department crews responded to the scene. Emergency crews found a black Nissan Rogue overturned on the dirt shoulder just south of the intersection.

CHP said the male driver of the Nissan was found outside the vehicle. A female passenger remained trapped inside the SUV. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

Paramedics transported the male driver to a hospital for further medical treatment.

Investigators said the suspect vehicle, described as a white GMC 5500, fled after the crash. Authorities later found the GMC abandoned in the desert, but the driver had already fled in an unknown direction.

The preliminary investigation found that the Nissan was traveling southbound on Sheep Creek Road, north of Dos Palmas Road. CHP said the GMC was stopped in the southbound lane of Sheep Creek Road at the intersection when the collision occurred. The reason remains under investigation.

Authorities have not released the woman’s identity pending notification of her family.

CHP said alcohol and drugs remain unknown factors at this stage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer T. Frias at the CHP Victorville Area office at 760-241-1186.

Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victim. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.

Compassionate Legal Support After a Fatal Phelan Hit-and-Run Crash

Losing a loved one in a hit-and-run crash is heartbreaking. When a driver flees after a collision, families are often left with grief, anger, unanswered questions, and the overwhelming burden of trying to understand what happened.

A fatal crash involving an overturned vehicle, a trapped passenger, and an abandoned suspect vehicle requires a careful investigation and immediate attention to preserving evidence.

At Sweet Lawyers, we extend our deepest condolences to families affected by fatal hit-and-run crashes.

No legal action can replace the life that was lost, but a wrongful death claim may help surviving family members pursue accountability and financial support for funeral expenses, medical costs, loss of companionship, lost income, emotional suffering, and other damages allowed under the law.

Hit-and-run cases often involve complex evidence. Important details may include CHP reports, witness statements, vehicle debris, crash scene photographs, roadway markings, medical records, surveillance footage, dash camera video, and information gathered from the abandoned suspect vehicle.

When a fleeing driver has not yet been located, acting promptly can help protect the family’s rights and support the search for answers.

Sweet Lawyers helps grieving families and injured victims navigate these difficult moments with compassion, professionalism, and respect.

Our team can review available evidence, communicate with insurance companies, and explain legal options clearly so families do not have to face the process alone.

We understand that families need steady guidance from advocates who treat their loss with dignity.

If your family lost a loved one in a hit-and-run crash, or if someone you care about was injured in a serious collision, contact Sweet Lawyers for a free consultation.

Sweet Lawyers stands with grieving families and helps them seek justice with care, compassion, and determination.
