3 Passengers Hospitalized Following Deadly Crash Near Jedidiah Smith Road

Temecula, CA (February 22, 2026) – Landen Ried, 16, of Temecula, was killed in an overspeeding crash on Margarita Road Thursday night.

It was around 8 p.m. when the deadly vehicle crash happened near Jedidiah Smith Road and Pio Pico Road.

Investigators said Landen was speeding south on Margarita Road when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed onto a telephone pole.

Responding officers located Ried critically injured. They immediately provided resuscitative measures, but the teen driver died at the scene.

Ried’s three passengers were hospitalized in stable condition.
