Landon Bourque Killed in Traffic Accident on Independence Parkway [Frisco, TX]

Frisco, TX (Aug. 10, 2023) – On Wednesday morning, 15-year-old Landon Bourque lost his life following a traffic accident on Independence Parkway.

The fatal collision took place at about 5 a.m. in front of Roach Middle School, less than a mile from his school.

The 10th grade student of Heritage High School was riding his bicycle on the first day of school, crossing the intersection with George Washington Drive. Police did not say who had the right of way.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and provided aid to the victim.

“I noticed there was a white truck coming pretty fast, they all do,” said a witness who asked to stay anonymous said.

Meanwhile, McKinney police are investigating the fatal accident and but have not issued any charges. 

The department did not release details on who was responsible in this accident, if speed may have been played a role.

Some of Landon Bourque’s friends learned about the accident as they went to school and passed his broken bike.

“It’s a tragedy, and we still don’t have all the details,” said Frisco ISD Superintendent MIke Waldrip. “But everybody feels this, certainly the family is dealing with such a tragic loss, so certainly our hearts and our thoughts and prayers go out to them.”

Moreover, the district informed students of the fatal accident and death of their classmate.

“Landon has been a part of our Coyote community and also a member of our football team. His loss will be felt by our Coyote family and our thoughts go out to the Bourque family and loved ones at this time as well,” Heritage High School principal Michelle Zurek said in the letter. 

The district urged parents to talk with their students and encourage them to express their feelings about the accident that claimed their fellow student’s life.
